Dog Training can be a fun and engaging experience for both you and your dog, but sometimes it can also become a very frustrating experience. It is because dog training is teaching a response to commands or cues which is not necessarily natural to the dog. Simply said, dog training is changing a dog's behavior for a special purpose.

Dog training starts from basic to advanced for your choosing, but it is always the best to start from the basic.

The basic dog training can be started from obedience training. So where do you begin with the obedience training? You could take your dog to the dog trainer, but you can always do it yourself. It is much more fun for you and your dog anyway, so why not?

The obedience training consists of training some basic commands such as “sit”, “come”, “drop it”, “stay”, and etc. for your dog to learn.

In this article, we will cover those four basic commands, “sit”, “come”, “drop it”, and “stay”. How to do it? What are the steps taken to accomplish it? You will understand by reading this article.

OBEDIENCE TRAINING
Teaching your dog basic obedience is a necessity because it is fun to have an obedient dog around, we all know about that.

At the very least, your dog should learn how to respond to the following basic commands:

Sit
Teaching your dog this basic command can help you to keep your dog under control regardless of the situation. “Sit” command is not too hard to be taught to your dog and it is a good command to start first. The “sit” command will calm your dog when he is anxious and unsure of a situation. Here are the steps to teach your dog "sit" command.

You have to prepare some small treats for your dog that he really enjoys. It is best if the treats are small enough for your dog to chew. Then hold the treat close to your dog’s nose around a centimeter away to gain his attention.
After you get your dog's attention, move one of your hands up, naturally allowing your dog's head to follow the treat and causing your dog to lower his bottom.

As soon as you see your dog lower his bottom, say “Sit,” after that give him the treat, and warmly praise your dog. 
Repeat those actions and make it habitual in your dog's training. this will help your dog learn a sitting movement when he hears the word. Once he understands, you can say the command without preparing a treat beforehand.

Come 
Teaching your dog this command in your dog training will make your dog to immediately come to you upon your command. This command can also help to keep your dog out of trouble, bringing him back to you from potential harm when you accidentally lose grip on the leash.

It is best to begin teaching this command to your dog as soon as your dog recognizes his name. Here are the steps to teach your dog the "come" command.

Like in the previous command, you have to prepare some treats for your dog.
At the first practice, try to put a leash and collar on your dog.
And then, say the command "come" while pulling on the leash gently.
When your dog follows you, reward them straight away with lots of praise and a treat.

You can repeat this exercise several times until your dog getting used to the exercise. Once your dog getting used to the dog training with the leash, you can remove it and practice the command in a calm and safe area.

Drop it 
Teaching your dog this command in your dog training will make your dog to instantly let go of anything in his mouth. With this command, you can save your dog from any potential harm if he ever picks up anything dangerous or poisonous. Here are the steps to teach your dog with "drop it" command.

You still have to prepare some treats, and you also have to prepare a toy for your dog's training. The goal of this dog training is to induce an understanding to your dog about the value differences between a treat and a toy.
Offer your dog a toy. You have to make sure that you put the toy in one hand and a treat in the other. 

Hold the toy with your hand in front of your dog’s mouth. Wait until your dog to sniff it and take it.

After your dog take the toy in his mouth, say “drop it” and offer a treat.
Repeat the process until your dog get used with the command.

Stay 
Before starting to train your dog this command, it is important that your dog excel at the “sit” command. Teaching your dog this command in your dog training will make your dog to remain calm, still, and in one place. The stay command is useful in a number of situations. It can keep your dog out from under your feet, or it can save his life by preventing him from running into dangerous situations. Here are the steps to teach your dog the "stay" command.

First, command your dog to “sit” to make your dog stay calm.
Keep your dog focused on you by standing right in front of him.
And then open the palm of your hand say the word “stay”.
Praise your dog if he holds his position even for a few seconds, and do not forget to give him a treat.

In teaching your dog these commands there are couples of available methods of dog training. Some of the popular dog training procedures such as the motivational training, Koehler method, clicker training, dominance-based training, and relationship-based training, positive reinforcement, and etc.

In dog training, we have to be patient, because we are asking our dogs to learn something which is unnatural for them. Do not be discouraged if your dog fails to meet your expectation. Always remember to practice
